Friends, Neighbors and Guests,
As citizens of Southampton County, we are proud
of its natural beauty, its rich agricultural
heritage and, most of all, its friendly and
hospitable people. For twenty-three years now,
we have taken a few days each August and set
aside the rigors and demands of day to day affairs
to celebrate those things which are most important
to us.
This annual celebration, the Franklin-Southampton
County Fair, has grown and evolved from modest
beginnings into a premier event attracting thousands
of residents and visitors each August. It is
a celebration of what is good about living in
rural and small-town America. Much like a breath
of fresh air, it will remind you of a simpler
time. Who can forget the smiling face of a youngster
whose 4-H project has just been awarded a blue
ribbon? Or dozens of giggling children chasing
after a greased pig? Or our fairest maidens
competing for the title of Miss Franklin-Southampton
County Fair?
Where else do we have an opportunity to pause
and observe the marvelous bounty of our soils
and the creative skills of our artisans and
craftsmen? Or relax in our favorite lawn chair
and listen to some of the finest musical entertainment
in the country? Or simply spend quality time
with one another - our families, our neighbors,
our communities?
Come. Leave your worries at the gate and step
back in time. Remind yourself of what a wonderful
place the Franklin-Southampton County region
is.
