TO ISSUE EMERGENCY FOOD STAMPS
IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY
COURTLAND,
VA - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved
the issuance of disaster food stamps for hurricane
victims in Southampton County.
County
residents may begin applying for disaster food stamps
on Monday, September 29, at the Southampton County
Department of Social Services, 26022 Administration
Center Drive, Courtland. The agency will be open
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Applications for this special program will not be
accepted after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7.
County residents who are not usually eligible for
food stamps may qualify temporarily if their home
or belongings were damaged or destroyed and they
have disaster-related expenses or lost income as
a result of the hurricane. Eligibility is based
on available income less disaster-related expenses.
For a family of four with an income of $2,010 or
less, the food stamp allotment would be $465.
Those
applying for assistance need to bring identification,
which could be a driver's license, school or work
ID, birth certificate or other identification. Also,
proof of residency, such as utility bills or tax
statements, should be brought, if possible.
County
residents who are already receiving food stamps
will automatically receive a half-month benefit
in their EBT account, IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY RECEIVED
BENEFITS TO REPLACE LOST FOOD BY SIGNING AN AFFIDAVIT
at the Southampton County Department of Social Services.
