The Southampton County Department of Public Utilities provides water and sewer service to Boykins, Branchville, Courtland (sewer only), Drewryville (water only), Edgehill, and Newsoms. We have a total of nine separate water systems providing potable water to the residents and businesses of Southampton County. This includes the Agri Business Park located off Hwy 58, the County Fairgrounds, the County School Board Complex, and the Southampton County Jail Farm. Each of these systems is monitored and maintained with strict accordance to Virginia Department of Health regulations.
We have two waste treatment plants that provide sanitary sewer collection and treatment services. One plant is located outside of Courtland providing service to the Town of Courtland and the surrounding area. The other plant is located in Boykins providing service to the Boykins-Branchville area and the Town of Newsoms. Each plant is operated and manned seven days a week to ensure proper maintenance and testing per Department of Environmental Quality regulations.
We are currently expanding our Courtland plant from a capacity of 303,000 gallons per day to 1.25 million gallons per day. This expansion is expected to be completed by April 2010.
Our office is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm to serve your utility needs. If you have questions regarding new accounts, usage, meter reads, billing, receipt of payments on existing accounts, or require information on availability of new service installation you may reach us at 757-654-6023.
