Minimum Qualifications for Deputy Sheriff:
U.S. Citizen
Resident of Southampton County or the City of Franklin
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Virginia Drivers License
No experience necessary
Application Process
The first step to the application process is to obtain an application for appointment from the Southampton Sheriff's Office. Once the application is completed and returned, the applicant makes a passing score of at least 60%, a DMV and Criminal History check will be performed. Those who pass these checks will then complete a Background Investigation Questionnaire and an Authorization for Release of Information Form. At this point, a background investigation will be performed. This investigation will include a thorough medical, academic, employment, and credit check. Based on these findings, qualifying applicants will be contacted for an interview.
